Bring back the Old-Fashioned. Why this 141-year-old cocktail deserves a revival.
The Pendennis Club, a gentlemen’s club founded in 1881 in Louisville, Kentucky, claims the old-fashioned cocktail was invented there.
The recipe was said to have been invented by a bartender at that club in honor of Colonel James E.
Here’s why this 141-year-old cocktail deserves a revival:
1 It’s a true classic:
Developed during the 19th century, its timeless quality and lasting worth, rank it still relevant and pointful.
2 It’s perfectly balanced:
It has the perfect zingy, tart notes, a touch of bitterness, and the big vanilla, oak, and caramel notes of bourbon.
3 It is beautiful in its simplicity:
Being uncomplicated is always more appealing.
4 Every part of it is purposeful:
Even the garnish isn’t decorative. It alters and perfectly compliments the final result.
5 Less is More:
With only 3 ingredients needed to make this stunning cocktail, it all comes down to their quality. Quality over quantity.
6 Some things are still better the old-fashioned way.
That’s how good things become great.
